Some feel good music for your day!

This song makes me feel so happy :)

Dearest Fruit Fly

May had ONE banana in her room and you decided you were welcome to live by the bed. Your tiny brain is not capable of comprehending just how annoying you are. Note that there is nothing at all to look forward to in me except your death.

Please leave or pay rent, thank you.

Soundly Yours,

May's Ear

Google Goggles where have you been all my life?!

It's so funny how things work. Just yesterday I asked my brother if he knew of any applications that allowed you to post an image and immediately find the source or any links to it. When he didn't I'm not going to lie, I felt like a genius, until I decided to keep some random station on in the car while driving and got put back in my place. Apparently Google has had the application Google Goggles for some time now and it's EXACTLY what I was referring to. Check out the video above, the guy is a bit weird and I wouldn't want him as a friend, but you'll definitely get the gist.

About a week ago the Getty Museum formed an alliance with Google Goggles and has become the first museum to adopt image recognition. All of its art work is now in an online archive that you can access using the application. It's such a great way to learn more about art pieces at your own pace, rather than trying to get as much information from those tiny information posts in the least amount of time. I don't even know why I bother reading those, I always just skim them anyway; I suppose it makes me feel like I'm learning something. In reality the info just goes straight out my other eyeball.

Knowing this earlier would have saved me so much time and so many weird search keywords; especially when looking for the source of the two painted boobies below... (that's right, I said boobies).

♥ D&G Summer 2011

I love everything about this ad, from Scarlet's undeniable perfection, to the dress, to the purple nail polish- which I'm definitely going to get my hands on once I get the chance!

"One Man's Junk is Another Man's Treasure"

Every once in a while I get introduced to something going on in the UAE, and feel a bit more love and appreciation for the country. Today it was the service called "Take My Junk." It's basically what the name implies, if there is anything you want to give away or get rid of/sell, just email or sms them and it'll all be taken care of at your convenience.

How I found out about it? My roomie and I have been fortunate enough to inherit a beautiful sofa set and were dealing with the hassle of what to do with our current one. Since we are getting our new couches today at 5pm we were considering any alternative including stacking the current couches on the balcony, which wouldn't have been smart at all. My genius of a roomie found out about Take My Junk just in time and was able to schedule a pick up of the couches at 4pm free of charge.

I think a lot of stuff goes to waste and it really bothers me to throw something away that someone else might need or want. I honestly thought this sort of service would take years to reach the Middle East and now feel bad for doubting the potential here. If you're ever throwing anything out this is definitely the service to use and you never know who you'll make a very happy person that day :)

Israel & Palestine; Back to Basics

My brother and his wife were enjoying a Jazz Festival on Filmore Street, SF and decided to have coffee in The Mission, a hub for young artists. They ended up at Ritual Coffee Roasters where they saw the above image hung on the wall. Thoughts?

After doing some light research I found out that this image replaced another that was banned and forced to be taken down. Apparently the previous piece of artwork was considered too serious of a matter on life to be in a cafe where "whimsical stuff" should be hung such as "pictures of telephone poles, birds sitting on the wires, tapestries of heavy metal lyrics".... and tits connected by metal rings apparently.

I'm not sure I'd get the same whimsical sensation staring at the above image as I would staring at telephone poles, but I'd definitely be intrigued. Not so much by the tit lock, but the ironic choice of flags on each. I'm not sure who the artist is, but I'd love to hear where he/she was coming from. I can think of a myriad of implications, but would rather the actual one from the source.

I really love controversial art; I wish there was freedom in the Middle East to exhibit more of it without fearing for the life of your family. It's almost as if people are scared, or don't want to realize the extent of its power among the masses. I understand that it might be controversial and offensive to some, but if we all just get used to it we'd take in what we want, and reject what we don't agree with.

This video just makes me wanna moooove!

I'll dance with him next thank you! More like I wish I had those moves in my skill bank.

Do these good looking, well dressed men who can move, really exist? While quite scrawny for my taste, with those moves he can be anyway he wants. I think if a guy busted that out in Dubai he'd be a pansy (or a secret threat).

There's something about losing control to music in a warehouse that looks so therapeutic. Definitely need to find one here. It could be happening already. Makes me jealous at the thought.

Craving some Gratuity?

I never thought I'd recommend a vegan restaurant to anyone. It's not that I'm a big meat eater, but most people do like their protein in the form of juicy red meat, chicken, fish or cheese. I knew immediately though, that it would be safe to big this place up after my brother and father who cannot enjoy their meal without some form of meat, couldn't stop talking about it. Thanks to my good friend Razane who circled it on a map for me :)

Located in a quiet area in San Fran, with a sign that kindly asks that cell phones be used outside, Cafe Gratitude has such a cozy and simple vibe. With its quirky wood finishings and big tables that seat people who aren't even dining with each other together, I was in love with the place before even looking at the menu. In the center of each table is a basket of game cards all having to do with gratitude and other spiritual sayings, I later found out the cafe was based on this game. I was too into the food to concentrate, but I'm sure it's an interesting game. There was also a wall of  books, mugs, board games and other cute gift like items.

Once we sat down and tried to understand the menu, which had a name for every meal like "I am Whole" or "I am Comforted," we decided to order a couple different meals to share (basically everyone wanted to play safe). I'm not going to lie, I was nervous the food wouldn't be good, especially since I have a family of foodies and my brother kept reminding us "this is the place May chose."Anywho, the  drink list ranged from light juices to mixes with wheat grass, to heavier milkshakes. The bar is open so you can see them working on your drinks. Nothing looks that great coming out of the juicer if you know what I mean...

Keep in mind nothing they serve has any meat, dairy or wheat, just substitutes I don't even know about.

After we realized how much we had ordered, we were sure we'd need a doggy bag. By the time we were satisfied there was nothing to take home, we were even overachievers and ordered dessert. Check out the link to the photos below.

Needless to say, we all left happy, satisfied and grateful.
