todays happiness

comes from within you...

as i was going through my old bookmarks i came across the blog "the daily love" and the article "what has to happen for you to be happy," caught my eye. the excerpt below really resonated with me. it's actually so easy to find happiness. so easy. i definitely think i make my life harder every time i forget this. something we have to remind ourselves daily is "happiness is my choice." we all know it well, but how many of us have mastered it? even though i consider myself a very positive person, i find that i fail on many accounts. rather than focusing our mind's control on random people or situations and how we want them to be, we should focus our control on maintaining our positive mind regardless of what we encounter. why? because we should want to be happy and diffuse any negativity. n'est ce pas?

"why is it so much easier for us to be unhappy than happy?
well, i think the answer lies in the idea that our brains are trained to keep us alive, not to make us happy. we have evolved so that we make avoiding pain more important than seeking pleasure. and in doing so, we tend to focus on what’s wrong – rather than on what we could be grateful for. and making this shift is what it’s all about."

Shit Banana, we've been ratted out!

Sorry Eve, you're not allowed to touch bananas, zucchinis, carrots and cucumbers either, stay tuned for more additions.
Is the article below real? At first it made me laugh, then feel sad, then want a banana.
Honestly, I'm amused by people who think they have that divine right to be able to make statements that'll humiliate their religion. I like my religion, I actually love it, I'm so proud to be Muslim, but the religion I follow is different from what the world has been shown. I thought we're supposed to follow the Quran? Am I missing something? Sometimes I really believe someone wrote a spoof on it and that people have been picking up the wrong copy. Can we follow the real deal? Unless the below article was concluded by reading between the lines of this very possible spoof, this guy has a very small penis that has probably never been touched willingly. Sad face.
However, as unfortunate as it must be to live in his terribly frustrated mind, he should feel guilty about his sexual fantasies with umm, God's food, on his own rather than trying to convince other people they're also feeling the same way.
I really want to know how he even came up with this.
Ok sure, people have laughed about the shape of bananas, but I mean cmon.. if you're ACTUALLY getting turned on by them, the problem isn't the fruit. This part was amazing -"the sheikh advised the interviewer to take the food and cut it for [the women] in a hidden place so they cannot see it." I just got this mental image of a crazy woman in chains and a straitjacket who's too horny to be set free!
To you fundo men, learn to "control" your own urges and sexual frustrations rather than taking it out on women. You can't even handle the sight of a woman's ankle. Sex is part of life, deal with it, stop suppressing the thought of it. Teach women to respect their body, don't tell them what they can and can't think of. By what you demand, your way would be to have women sitting on the floor in a white room with their eyes shut and mouths open to be spoon fed mashed food by you and be ready to reproduce when you please.
Please don't insult my God or my religion.

CAIRO: An Islamic cleric residing in Europe said that women should not be close to bananas or cucumbers, in order to avoid any “sexual thoughts.”
The unnamed sheikh, who was featured in an article on el-Senousa news, was quoted saying that if women wish to eat these food items, a third party, preferably a male related to them such as their a father or husband, should cut the items into small pieces and serve.
He said that these fruits and vegetables “resemble the male penis” and hence could arouse women or “make them think of sex.”
He also added carrots and zucchini to the list of forbidden foods for women.
The sheikh was asked how to “control” women when they are out shopping for groceries and if holding these items at the market would be bad for them. The cleric answered saying this matter is between them and God.
Answering another question about what to do if women in the family like these foods, the sheikh advised the interviewer to take the food and cut it for them in a hidden place so they cannot see it.

Happy Holidays vs Merry Christmas?

Apparently  the White House referred to Christmas Trees as Holiday Trees for the first time this year which prompted CBS presenter, Ben Stein, to present this piece:

My  confession:

I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are, Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto.  In fact, I kind of like it
.It shows that we are all  brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on  display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu.  If people want a creche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from, that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God ? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a  lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her 'How could God let something like this happen?' (regarding Hurricane Katrina).. Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said, 'I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?'

In light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave, because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said okay.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Are you laughing yet?

Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it.

Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit.

If not, then just discard it.... no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in.

My Best Regards, Honestly and respectfully,

Ben Stein

Freida Pinto in Black Gold?

I just have one comment:
Freida Pinto. is. NOT. Arabic.

Maybe one day when actual Arabs are used to represent themselves, movies will be more genuine and convincing.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Dearest Uncivilized Gum Spitter

Try not to be a villager next time. If you must spit your gum on the floor like an uncivilized twat, at least spit it in a corner or on a wall; not out in the open where someone is bound to step on it.

Yours truly, xx

To some, "style" is money..

You know those people who don't really understand style, but just buy clothes from a designer's latest collection (whether it's ugly or not) because as long as it's a designer and the purchase implies money money monayyyy, they're happy and feel "stylish"? Those are the kind of people who would probably buy Sigma Germany's "Wood Edition" of their SD1 high-end DSLR.. just m.o.

The wooden case is made of Amboyna Burl, which is a decorative veneer found on a Southeast Asian tree. It then takes around "60 hours to cut, mill and polish." As my friend Menna says, as if trees don't have it bad enough..

It sells for around €9,999 or AED 51,160. I personally wouldn't need it. Translation: it's tacky as hell and I wouldn't buy it if I had that money to throw away.

Dearest Google, I think I need my space..

We all know how smart and thoughtful you are. You catch on to my simple glances here and there and take note of what I like. You know so much about me and I'm so comfortable telling you anything. You're always trying to please me by being one step ahead...

...but sometimes, you just gotta chill out. No, there isn't another search engine.

I wasn't researching colonics because I suffer from colitis or poo problems. Thanks for educating me on the inflammation, and everyone else who used my laptop too.

Have to deal with that awkward moment when friends try to politely share laxative remedies like they're bringing it up out of the blue, and think I'm shy when I don't know what they're talking about.

Dearest Wholefoods Market

Do you really need to outwardly state that you aren't promoting Ramadan, but the halal food products? It's a shame a small portion of your demographic think by insinuating the promotion of Ramadan, you're promoting terrorism. What's more shameful is that you so easily appeased their ignorance.

Here's a segment from the article, Wholefoods: We Should Not Highlight Ramadan

"Despite a statement from the Anti-Defamation League that Whole Foods and its Ramadan promotion aren't vaguely anti-Semitic, the association between a holiday that represents a time of patience, humility and charity for Muslims across the world and Jihadist terrorism is apparently so strong with a small, vocal minority that Whole Foods has capitulated to these people -- who surely can't represent the chain's larger demographic -- and buried its former Ramadan promotions as if they were a dirty secret."

They go off to say that "It is probably best that we don't specifically call out or 'promote' Ramadan. … We should not highlight Ramadan in signage in our stores as that could be considered 'Celebrating or promoting' Ramadan."

“What’s important is that the corporation itself stood up to these hate bloggers and did the right thing. It’s doing what any corporation does. It promotes events and products that will hopefully gain more customers.” Ramadan Becomes an Issue for Wholefoods

Its honestly too late to try to justify that your initial blog post mentioning Ramadan and your collaboration with halal products, was just to please all your customers' needs and offer a larger variety. It's just amusing that you spruce up your store to suit different religious holidays yet freak out about Ramadan. I think the world is seeing a lot worse than Ramadan right now. Then again, it's apparent you initially put those signs up to make the smaller upper middle class Muslims feel good and accepted to spend more.

I'm offended by this for many reasons, but really because I love the experience you offer. I get excited at the thought of going to your store and eating your fresh brown rice sushi and freshly ground honey roasted peanut butter. Every time I go I find something new to love that I never would have thought of, like okra chips. Ultimately, I'm just happy there.

"This is silly, its pure capitalism for Whole Foods to identify a need, a market niche, and attempt to connect with that market.  No one says that commerce should have anything to do with beliefs. Trust me, I am a Muslim and whether I shop at Whole Foods or not has more to do with the price and quality than anything else, it is a purely business relationship,. I am not so dumb as to think that a large corporation is concerned with anything but it's bottom line... as this ridiculous corporate insecurity displays." Comment by S. Ashraf Meer on article Wholefoods Ramadan Marketing Headache

It's sad to be brought back to reality that you're just a business at the end of the day. That’s our only relationship with you; we buy, you sell.

Battle of the Tallest Skyscraper

I mean the Burj Khalifa certainly didn't think it would be the tallest forever did it? Well not to worry it has another 5 years before it crumbles in depression.

Jeddah Tower which will be 1,000 meters (will that even be high in 5 years?) will not only have the typical offices, apartments and condominiums, but will have a Four Seasons Hotel. At a slim cost of $1.2 billion, it will also be facing the Red Sea. Not sure which of those is supposed to be the unique selling proposition though.

Now I KNOW not everyone suffers small wiener syndrome with all the "my tower is taller than yours" business (oh wow), but why oh why do Arabs need to compete and prove everything to such Shakespearean proportions.

We get it, you are swimming in  $$$$. However, if you're ever bored of it, there are some hungry people in Somalia who might like some, just a silly thought.

But I understand, every country spends its money the way it pleases and has no obligations to fix the misfortune of other countries; if they do and I'm just ignorant that's my bad, I just know what the news tells me.

Dearest Eyelash Extensions

You're starting to really get in the way. Just fall off.

Cleavage is Not Consent. So what makes a slut?

That Canadian policeman who told people to "avoid dressing like sluts" to stop being victimized did not expect the tsunami of wrath by women to hit! Slutwalks continue to take place with organizers chanting "blame the rapist not the victim, doesn't matter what I'm dressed in" and much more. It's really amusing that women are expected to look sexy but are supposed to symbolize chastity. I still wonder what makes a girl a slut. The term is so vague and relative to me.

I completely agree with the protests; WHY would the victim get blamed for getting raped by some abuser with psychological/ insecurities/life issues? I found a statistic which stated that "In the United States, a woman is sexually assaulted or raped every six minutes. 85% of victims know their attacker and 84% of rapes will go unreported." There are a slew of reasons rape is said to take place, a lot of them revolve around the need to feel in control and powerful, and realease frustration more so than sexual pleasure. At this point the victim is usually viewed as an object rather than a human.

Growing up between the Middle East and the US has definitely brought about a definition of confusion and contradiction. I'm not a fan of girls or boys who sleep around with anything that moves and it is hard not to judge them, but I make a conscious effort not to. It's not my place to, and if I think it I try my best to keep it to myself. There are just so many levels to sluts, and I've experienced the definition ranging from girls who wear a tight skirt to girls who sleep around with different guys regularly.

I'm not a feminist, but I do think there should be a concrete definition of what a slut is so that a lot of puerile boys (and girls) can stop getting satisfaction by throwing the word around as a calumny. It's really something new generations should grow up with a clearer understanding of. More importantly, men should not try to justify their disgusting impetuous acts of rape on what a girl wears; blame your nasty uncontrollable and frustrated penile urges on yourself. If you're raping someone you have more of a mental problem to deal with. But you know that already.

Dearest Fruit Fly

May had ONE banana in her room and you decided you were welcome to live by the bed. Your tiny brain is not capable of comprehending just how annoying you are. Note that there is nothing at all to look forward to in me except your death.

Please leave or pay rent, thank you.

Soundly Yours,

May's Ear
