thought of the day

love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person's ultimate good as far as it can be obtained.

love lessons from a couple who know

i was truly touched by this article by a couple who lived through a 73-year marriage. people who think love and relationships are easy haven't truly lived through one. the more you open your eyes to your personal relationships and those around you, you realize that as loving as they are, they do require work and a whole lotta compromise. it's just up to you to decide whether that person is worth the emotional investment as not many people are worth the effort. as long as the pros outweigh the cons i believe it's worth it.

my favorite points:
- embrace his quirks: you cannot fall in love with blue eyes and perfect teeth. you have to fall in love with the character of the person.
- move on from rows: my most important lesson was that we did not rehash. if something was unpleasant we got through it, handled the fallout, and did not bring it up again in happier times.
- trust your feelings: you shouldn't have to question whether you feel a physical attraction.
- knowing attraction can last: we discovered that as our bodies grew fatter or skinnier, as we lost hair or grew it in peculiar places, our attraction stayed intact.

xx happy loving

tell me rumi

i want to see you.

know your voice.

recognize you when you
first come 'round the corner.

sense your scent when I come
into a room you've just left.

know the lift of your heel,
the glide of your foot.

become familiar with the way
you purse your lips
then let them part,
just the slightest bit,
when I lean in to your space
and kiss you.

i want to know the joy
of how you whisper
"more”

boys n girls: classic scenario

step 1: boy has his eye on girl.

step 2: girl remains reserved.

step 3: boy manipulates, demands, pushes, flatters, forgets about pride, wants all or nothing because he doesn't need another friend who's a girl in his life.

step 4: girl accepts with hesitation.

step 5: boy and girl enjoy being in a relationship for a week (MAX).

step 6: girl is convinced boy likes her and invests herself.

step 7: boy becomes less interested. (real boy: verbally makes it clear immediately. worthless child: distances himself to let her figure it out).

step 8: girl is confused.

step 9: boy is confused girl isn't interested in being friends.

(somehow Steps 6 - 9 manage to occur simultaneously in a span of a minute).

note: even if girl remains strong and reserved boy isn't happy and peaces out. how is this solved? it isn't. girl needs to learn to get over it until she finds boy who doesn't mess up step 7.

why not?

When it comes to our love lives, we're either involved with someone or we're not. Some of us are happy in relationships, some are miserable and hoping the attachment wanes away on its own (fyi worst situation, sucks for you guys). In my opinion, the most preferable status to be in when you don't want to commit but wouldn't mind some playful fun is a flirtationship.

So... a flirtationship... pretty much a rapport with someone with a lot of fun flirting and such, for a period of time. No commitments, and if any attachment is developed, the person should deal with it on his/her own, don't make the situation sticky for the other person involved.

It's not for you if you:
  1. are a hopeless romantic
  2. are traditional at heart
  3. are in a vulnerable point in life
  4. sleep with rollers in your hair
  5. forget how to utilize your rational mind a lot
  6. think too much
  7. take yourself too seriously (loosen up peeps, no one really cares that much)
  8. suffer from acute anxiety
  9. take photos of your abs on your phone to "stumble upon" by mistake when you're with the girl (honestly... don't even know what to tell you. Refer to #12)
  10. never got enough love from people
  11. have ocd/ are an intense perfectionist (there's a minimal amount of perfectionism that can still work to your advantage)
  12. have way too many insecurities; not getting into specifics, the scale is "a little," to "way too many," (you should be somewhere in between)

The rules:
  1. be straightforward from the beginning and genuinely understand the contract: this is not a relationship.
  2. don't over analyze anything.
  3. be aware that feelings will most likely evolve, BUT that doesn't mean it's moving towards a relationship.
  4. convo doesn't need to get too heavy, but if it does, consider the situation moving towards a better friendship rather than a relationship.
  5. be aware that when/if feelings evolve someone will most likely get hurt, but enjoy the hurt; after all, you put yourself in this position.
  6. the second one of you gets bored or loses interest, be completely honest, the other person has no right to get mad or be dramatic.... in front of you.
  7. no need for intense pride, take this as an opportunity to be as straightforward as you want, you don't need to work your ass off trying to act like you don't like the person that much, you've already covered rule #1.
  8. respect at all times.
  9. no need for loyalty.
  10. no need to worry about impressing the person for a potential future together, if it's to add spice to the future of your flirtationship sure, (not that i think it can last too long - one or both of you will eventually get bored and want something/someone else). i.e. showing them how good you are with children is not necessary.
  11. don't assume the other person is starting to like you more because of things that are said or done, until the person actually says "I want more" don't make it awkward for the both of you and back off out of the blue. The other person might just be enjoying the idea that they can act cute and cuddly with a person and not have to worry about any commitments. Also, some people are just naturally very caring people (with everyone), if the other person is being sweet don't give yourself that much credit.
  12. when it ends, share a hug and look forward to the next.
  13. HAVE FUN!!!

happy flirting xx

Your True Description, Right Here, Right Now

Anyone who knows me knows that I love horoscopes and comparing people to their signs. However, I don't know all the signs considerably well at all - I'm not one of those people who can just look at you and tell you what makes you tick. I can only match a couple signs to their months; but I'm always intrigued nonetheless. I've never been into checking my horoscope on a day to day basis; if it's around I'll read it, and if it sucks I'll ignore it. Some descriptions match my personality and some don't; at times I don't consider myself a true Scorpio and at times I do.

When I read my description on Somebody to Love, I think I really found myself. It turns out my whole life I didn't know I had to account for being a Fire Tiger as well. I have to say it's pretty spot on! As for me being fantastic... why thank you very much :)

Scorpio Fire Tiger

Ballsy as hell. This one has so much fire in her belly that from the moment she's lying in her little carry-cot, she's beginning to get awfully, awfully frustrated. Scorpio Fire Tiger girls want to get out there and take on the universe. They want to meet every last one of us head on. They love a battle, adore a challenge, fear no one, fear nothing and regard a daily challenge as a prerequisite of life. If there was a girl out there who could run 17 businesses, have seven children and find time to climb K2 in the middle of the week, it's this powerhouse. She is a relentless, fiery, feisty, burning ball of flaming ambition. In terms of career, there really is nothing this girl can't achieve. She's as practical as she is creative, but whatever she does, it'll need to be terribly exciting, and just a little bit dangerous. Her real Achilles heel lies in the fact that Scorpio girls are ordinarily cool, calm, collected and assured - but the Fire Tiger is a short-tempered, feisty bruiser. And it's these two different personalities trying to work together that will cause the occasional implosion - and you really don't want to be on the receiving end of what is tantamount to a nuclear blast on a seismic scale. This is no cuddly toy, this a serious cookie who will achieve greatness and, quite possibly, leave a trail of utter destruction in her wake. She's fantastic.

You can also find out the compatibility of you and your partner and find out who your perfect celebrity match is. Apparently getting a 100% is not common so don't get too dissappointed. I just want to put it out there that Josh Hartnett is my perfect match. With 100%. Not like he can get me or anything....

Whoever I have showed this to has experienced the same shock and excitement at the precision of the description. There's something about that genuine smile that creeps up on you when you've heard, read or realized something true. Expect it. Check yours out now!

Dearest Google, I think I need my space..

We all know how smart and thoughtful you are. You catch on to my simple glances here and there and take note of what I like. You know so much about me and I'm so comfortable telling you anything. You're always trying to please me by being one step ahead...

...but sometimes, you just gotta chill out. No, there isn't another search engine.

I wasn't researching colonics because I suffer from colitis or poo problems. Thanks for educating me on the inflammation, and everyone else who used my laptop too.

Have to deal with that awkward moment when friends try to politely share laxative remedies like they're bringing it up out of the blue, and think I'm shy when I don't know what they're talking about.

boys n girls: To Tell or Not to Tell

I watched a movie recently and came across a scene that completely sucked, but made me wonder a bit. I have no doubt it must happen a lot, and when it does the reactions are always relative to the situation blah blah blah, but generally, what would most people do?

Girl and boy have been together over a year and are so in love, it's disgusting. Their relationship is so perfect, happy couples doubt their own relationships. One rainy day when boy has been away "on business," he returns to open arms only to leave them empty. Tells girl the speech she knows oh so well.

Sidenote: it's so annoying how "it's me not you" couldn't be more appropriate when the time comes to use it. Too bad we have to find an alternative line to blame our change of feelings, in order to avoid jumping right out of the most cliche film.

Anyway, boy explains all his reasons, which are undeniably rehearsed, yet, seemingly logical. Suddenly, he had a mature revelation and every obstacle and difference that could have been worked through with love won't be overcome. They should have just put the film on mute and added the subtitles "Frankly my dear, I don't love you anymore."

Not so long after the break up, girl's best girl friends find out boy was cheating on her. Meanwhile, girl has been in a devastated state and has no idea.

Should her friends:

a) tell her immediately
b) wait until time has healed a little more
c) act dumb to avoid feeding into more of girl's insecurities

Don't Always Trust a Boy's Package

I always knew the cast of Super Mario Brothers were an extremely sexually frustrated bunch. Glad to see the girls were... original. But seriously, what's up with the mushrooms in their pants? Scarring.
I never trusted Peach, she was always a conniving, fake.. girl.  And who's Daisy?!
Mario to me will always be asexual, sorry dude. Looks like Luigi got all the man pride genes. His 2nd drawing is priceless.
As for Toad, shame on you mr. advice giver. Clearly your words of wisdom do not extend (no pun intended) to the bedroom.

boys n girls: A cumulative conclusion of an on going debate

After talking to a lot of my single friends (guys and girls) we attempted to come down to a conclusion to the following question: Do people in Dubai fall in love? Obviously this is a generalization bla bla bla no one needs to get defensive. And I'm not one of those bitter people who hasn't found love here, or someone who constantly bashes it, on the contrary I've grown to love Dubai. Since I came here though, finding a couple who love each other beyond the black hole of superficiality that Dubai has been sucked into is like spotting Waldo on a page he isn't even on. I'm not talking about that premature love we are all aching to feel and say after a couple months of being with someone. But that genuine love that comes when you've stripped the person of everything they own, and are in the eyes of others, and just see with your own heart.

I get it, we're all pressured by social/cultural/family expectations, but for some reason, these expectations have blown up to a more elitist and demanding level that is just a great way to fuel anyone's morale. Abu's hypnosis with that huge ruby in the Cave of Wonders is actually a state people get into here, except they wouldn't mind getting stuck in the cave (reference to Aladdin for all of you who had a weird upbringing). No one will ever EVER admit the reason they're with their partner who doesn't treat them that well or they don't even enjoy is because of his looks/social/monetary/family status. Despite the fact that their conversations are a bottomless pit of no substance, they manage to put up with it because of their low self esteem and the fact that they've forgotten or never experienced a partner who becomes their best friend and lover for being him/herself.

At the end of the day, what makes them feel good isn't the person their partner is, but their nascant materialistic obsession of what he/she has, and ultimately how they look with him/her. The problem is these couples manage to convince themselves that they're happy, and only the lucky ones break free and realize their relationship wasn't real. Some people never do, but they don't need real. For those, Dubai is more than perfect.

Reasons are endless as everyone has their own, but perhaps a lot of people are too busy boosting their own self-esteem, that they don't have enough attention to spare to take care of someone else, or love someone for who they are.  It could be that the people aren't capable of loving anyone other than themselves. Ultimately, I think it can be agreed on that Dubai has a pretentious fog over it. So maybe the correct question to ask is: Once you're sucked into that black hole of superficiality, can you find a way out?

boys n girls: Questionable Scenario

I was recently told a questionable situation from a friend all the way in the North Pole and think it should be open to discussion. Comments are very appreciated.

Step 1: Boy sees girl at party, both are intoxicated

Step 2: Boy shows interest

*Feelings are mutual (ie. it’s still the beginning and the girl thinks boy is cute and is just curious; she’s not naming their future babies)*

Step 3: Digits exchanged

Step 4: Social outings coordinated

Step 5: Sleep-overs commence

Step 6: Sleep-overs end after a couple weeks

*Questionable part: No physical contact ever happened except a hand hold… and that’s also questionable*

Step 7: Communication becomes minimal

Step 8: Limbo

Note that this girl is close to flawless and even if she was scary beyond all means (in which case I doubt the interest would have struck) how can the boy resist any physical contact? No he is not an awkward vampire scared of sucking the life out of his girl interest.

Is the boy:

a)   a)  Scared of rejection
b)   b) Uninterested
c)   c) Hiding a small “member”... if ya know what I mean ..
d)   d) Not really interested in girls (note the plurality)

avoiding cheaters is getting easier

Tired of finding out if a guy is a waste of time on your own? I'm pretty sure you are, and probably every other girl around. That's why you can either share the losers you've experienced or be warned of other ones at the site Don'tDateHimGirl.com. Might be a pushing it a little but still entertaining.

happy "love" day

I guess some people do need a reminder to show their "special" someone that they L-O-V-E them, but does it really have to be a worldwide predictable event on the same day? I guess I find it sort of cheesy being at a restaurant knowing every other couple around me is there for that same reason. What if your lover doesn't take you out to dinner, does he not love you enough?? If he forgets to order you roses should you reconsider the relationship? I think if Valentines day is what someone bases their relationship on they've got some inner issues to sort out. Believe me, I know some people who take this day very seriously.

I clearly remember high school and the rush everyone would get from the roses that would be delivered to the students in class.  There was definitely some sort of rose competition going on with those regular attention seeking students you find in each grade. Mind you, they either sent a bouquet to themselves or agreed on it with their friends. It’s like an unfortunate need to show off how loved you are.

I’ve noticed the expectations of friends around me increase progressively, I remember a time when a rose, some Hershey kisses  and the occasional card would do the job, and now find that if you’re not making a purchase from Cartier’s “Love” collection you'd better have a good excuse to save the relationship! Ok it’s not that bad, but I think there’s a bit too much pressure on couples and their exchanges,  I think we’ve all forgotten that a person’s company is really what matters most on this day. Too bad genuinely appreciating the smaller things does not apply. We can only blame each other and our growing superficial needs. I'm not saying I don't like gifts, I just think if they pop up unexpectedly it makes them  a bit more exciting and special.

On the flip side, Valentines day does hold a record for being the second largest card-sending holiday of the year - after Christmas. At least it’s nice to know that in the midst of all the hatred we see around us, there's still a lot of love to give in some way or another. Let this day be what you want- secretly something to brag about,  personal and special in its own original way, or just another day. As long as you disgusting lovebirds are happy then do what you gotta do and enjoy it :p
